Why we’re asking
The line is named for the mayor who ran Mississauga for 36 years, and it has now been under construction for a quarter of that.
Metrolinx’s latest word, in April, was that construction wraps in early 2028, after which the line enters testing and commissioning. The original completion date was 2024. There is no opening date. In the meantime the agency has split the unfinished work into two contracts, and the province has started talking about the line as the place it will try its next round of fare integration.
When it runs, it runs eighteen kilometres up Hurontario from Port Credit GO to Steeles, through Cooksville, the City Centre and every plaza in between, with a downtown Brampton extension planned as a tunnel. It is the first rapid transit Mississauga has built for itself.
The question is not whether it is late. It is whether the city it was built for will use it.
